Salem High Defeats Bangor High

High School Quiz Show Invitational

(DURHAM, May 19, 2018) - Granite State Challenge champions, Salem High School defeated High School Quiz Show: Maine champions, Bangor High, in the first round of High School Quiz Show Invitational at WGBH in Boston.

The Salem Blue Devils were represented by captain Tony Consentino, Aidan Gallo, Jonathan Tarness, and Ricky Jeffreys, with alternates Alexis Ahern and Oba Oseghali. They were coached by Bernie Campbell.

Hosted by Billy Costa, this series of three games pits the winners of four New England PBS station's academic quiz shows - Massachusett's High School Quiz Show, High School Quiz Show: Maine, High School Quiz Show: Rhode Island, and NHPBS' own Granite State Challenge - against each other to determine one New England winner.

Making the game between Maine and New Hampshire special, were video questions from Salem native, Governor Chris Sununu and Maine's Governor Paul LePage.

Salem High now moves on to the championship game where they will meet the championship team from High School Quiz Show, Andover High in Massachusetts, who defeated High School Quiz Show: Rhode Island champions, Barrington High School. The championship game between Salem High and Andover High will air Saturday, May 26 at 6 pm on NHPBS.

Granite State Challenge is generously funded by lead sponsor Unitil; additional funding is provided by NEA-New Hampshire, Heinemann Publishing, New Hampshire Lottery, D.F.
